The figure of the displaced, that is forced to migrate from its home region is a common thread in Beatriz González' seminal group of works "Desplazamientos forzados y paisajes elementales". Based on images of refugees of the contemporary press, motifs like groups of people carriying heavy loads on their shoulders, are repetitively processed by the artist within her paintings, drawings and serigraphies. Yet, "Estandarte para desplazamiento-Chocó" is an outstanding piece among the series, since it shows the only scene, as the artist states, when the displaced are actually coming back to their homes, being therefore returnees. Captured with black charcoal on a horizontally aligned canvas, the figures are simplified in an almost stamp-like manner, thus leaving its iconic traces within the memory of the beholder.
