"A 'Homosexual With Bad Teeth' made me laugh the first time I painted it, and then as it sat in my studio it started to make me sad. I think perhaps because the portrait is of him smiling, so it became ironic. And then it started to look like he was in a fight. I think this happens with my paintings often, as you live with them, and see them every day, they start to make their own stories and associations." - Brett Charles Seiler, July 2020.
