Yakobov's subject matter is strongly influenced by his violent childhood in Uzbekistan and in Israel as an "Oleh hadash" where he arrived when he was 7. Art has always been his way of escaping reality into his own world of fantastic imagery, composed of multiple fragments of memory.
As a rebellious student in art school he had much difficulty getting through the first years, but eventually got recognized in he's final year and graduated with honors. He studied drawing, painting, sculpting, photography and video and continues to work in all mediums .
