Zanele Muholi is a visuaו artist and activist from Durban, South Africa. Zanele Muholi's work aims to rewrite a visual history of South Africa to bear witness to the resistance of the queer, trans, and gay communities, even though these communities are often targets of violence and discrimination in South Africa. Advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ cause is, therefore, an integral part of the artist's artistic process, and they define themselves as a visual activist. Zanele Muholi is one of the most acclaimed contemporary photographers. A retrospective of the artist's career was held at the Tate Modern. The artist has also been exhibited in several institutions around the world such as the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and the Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town.
