This is a body of work consisting of four large-scale oil paintings
I started 1 October 2021 - 21 December 2021.
A continuation of my conceptual series The Matriarchy, generations of spiritual guides in
my family.

Dubandlela, 2021
This piece is part of my new body of work and is an attempt to trace and understand my lineage as a Mosotho woman born, raised, and still living in KwaZulu-Natal. I wanted to draw attention to the women in my maternal and paternal family that have passed. These are real-life members of my bloodline who visit from time to time in my dreams and have become sort of fictional characters in my paintings. They play a role in conveying messages in my dreams. They are something spiritual, ferocious, and capturing emotion on some ethereal dreamscapes. These figures become alive with an ancestral present as if they are negotiating their relationship with the environment.
