BALELE is a Nguni word referring to “sleep” or “sleeping.” This piece suggests the need to find comfort even in an environment that’s not very comfortable. This is too often the case in the city of Johannesburg. I refer to this city as “a home away home,” a space that’s always reminded me to remain calm even in the midst of chaos. The characters are laying down in an open space. One cannot ascertain the exact location, but there is a display or peace and comfort.
