Daniel Gyekyi Gyan (b. 1992) is a Ghanaian contemporary painter based in Accra, working from his own Gyekyi-D Art Studio. Born in the Greater Accra Region, he discovered his talent for art at a young age, studying first at Salem Senior High School in Accra before going on to Ghanatta College of Art andDesign, from which he graduated in 2008.

Gyan has developed a distinctive technique that combines acrylic paint with modeling paste, applied witha palette knife to build up rich, dimensional textures. The resulting surfaces give his figures a tactile, sculptural quality, with bold gestural brushstrokes that emphasize depth, movement, and color. While hispractice is predominantly figurative, drawing on portraiture and the human form, he occasionally turns toabstraction.

His work is rooted in African identity and community storytelling, often centering the black feminine form,African and diasporic models, children, and scenes of daily cultural life. Drawing inspiration from hisimmediate environment, urban culture, and fashion, Gyan creates paintings that are at once deeplypersonal and reflective of the social realities and traditions around him.

His portraits are noted for theirwarmth, honesty, and intensity, capturing subjects with a sense of poise and stillness.Gyan work has been shown internationally, including with TAAG Gallery, and continues to contribute tothe expanding narrative of contemporary West African art.
