Mpho Feni Chulumanco
Mpho Feni (b. 1995) is a South African painter who lives and works in Cape Town. After earning an advanced diploma in Public Administration from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2020, he left his expected professional path to devote himself fully to painting.
Drawing upon his cultural heritage, family and daily experiences, Feni creates vibrant figurative works centered on togetherness, memory and shared celebration. Gatherings, birthdays, graduations and traditional occasions become expressions of love, unity and resilience within close-knit communities. His more recent paintings adopt a quieter, dreamlike quality, with figures rendered in luminous pink tones and surrounded by open white space. This distinctive approach moves beyond fixed ideas of race and identity, emphasizing the vulnerability and humanity shared across social and cultural boundaries.
Feni presented his first solo exhibition, Chulumanco, at Eclectica Contemporary in 2023. His work has also appeared at AKAA in Paris, FNB Art Joburg and the Investec Cape Town Art Fair.
