Anat Canaani
Anat Canaani is an Israeli figurative painter who studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she is known for large-scale paintings that explore the body, movement and the emotional relationships between figures.
Canaani’s subjects range from dancers and family pairings to solitary heads and animals. Her compositions enlarge private gestures into immersive scenes, allowing posture, proximity and physical tension to carry the narrative. In works such as the monumental Dance series, movement becomes both expressive and psychological, while paintings such as Mother and Daughter examine intimacy, protection and the complex bond between two people. Her figurative imagery remains recognizable yet open-ended, inviting viewers to construct their own emotional reading.
Canaani was selected for the ST-ART artist-support initiative and exhibited in its 2010 annual group exhibition, START 2, alongside a new generation of Israeli artists.
