Kobi Assaf (b. 1982, Israel) is an Israeli painter who lives and works in Tel Aviv. A graduate with honors from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Assaf creates atmospheric paintings that bring the visual sensibility of nineteenth-century Romanticism into a distinctly contemporary setting.

His landscapes and figurative scenes are frequently immersed in muted browns, hazy light and an almost pre-electric twilight. Familiar subjects become distant and mysterious, positioned somewhere between memory, dream and reality. While his work carries the Romantic longing for unknown places and imagined histories, it retains a modern awareness of painting as illusion and constructed image.

Assaf has received awards from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and Bezalel Academy. He has presented several solo exhibitions at Zemack Contemporary Art, including Else-Where, Dis-Play, Prima Facie and Green Sun. His work has also been shown internationally at Art Miami, Art Central Hong Kong and EXPO Chicago.
