During a research trip to Beijing in 2014, as part of his work for the Tiroche DeLeon collection, Serge was invited to a studio visit with artist Liu Chuang. At the time Liu and Cui were dating, and Serge was also introduced to the practice of Cui, a very young painter at the time. A year later, Cui was in Israel as one of the first artists invited to the Tiroche DeLeon residency, where she produced a body of exceptional paintings drawing on Tel-Aviv’s unique Bauhaus architecture. The residency was part of a wider collaboration between Tiroche and Leo Xu, then a promising young gallerist from Beijing and later senior director of David Zwirner gallery in Hong Kong. Cui Jie is currently represented by Pillar Corrias and Antenna Space.
