Daniel Gyekyi Gyan (b. 1992, Accra, Ghana) is a Ghanaian painter known for his richly textured portraits and expressive depictions of contemporary African life. Based in Accra, he trained at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design and draws inspiration from his neighbourhood, fashion, urban culture and the wider visual world of the internet. His international exhibition history includes Contemporary African Art: The Dreams and Realities of Identity, presented at the Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum in Vilnius in 2022. Gyan combines acrylic paint with modelling paste, applying successive strokes with a palette knife to create surfaces with a pronounced sculptural quality. Colour and texture give his figures a vivid physical presence, while their poses convey warmth, composure and individuality. His subjects include women, men and children, with particular attention to African models, diasporic identities and moments of everyday social life.
