This shared outlook gave rise to a new collaboration between designer Arik Ben Simhon and Serge Tiroche Contemporary, one of Israel’s leading contemporary art galleries. The collaboration will launch with PATTERN, an exhibition dedicated to contemporary African art, presented at Ben Simhon’s studio on Nahalat Binyamin Street in Tel Aviv. Going forward, the studio will become a home for a series of rotating exhibitions, including a forthcoming exhibition dedicated to Israeli art.
The choice of contemporary African art for the first exhibition is no coincidence. In recent years, contemporary African art has emerged as one of the most significant and compelling voices in the global art world. Works by artists from across the continent are now shown in major museums, galleries, and art fairs worldwide. The growing international recognition of this movement was also reflected in the appointment of curator Koyo Kouoh to lead the 2026 Venice Art Biennale — the first African woman selected for the prestigious role.
At the heart of PATTERN is the idea of patterns — not only as a visual motif, but as a cultural language. The patterns, colors, textures, and materiality that characterize many works of contemporary African art create a natural dialogue with the world of design, where material, scale, composition, and texture are equally integral to the overall experience.
